Ookla Speed Test App For Mac

Description

The speed test app from Ookla displays three options on its main interface – check speed, see test results and change settings. To get started with this application, tap the 1st option. When you do so, Ookla will select a server closest to your location. Speedtest is still handy without an account. Use the mobile apps to test on your smartphone (iOS, Android); it also has native apps for Windows, Mac, Google Chrome, even the Apple TV.

What’s New

Resolves an issue when opening Speedtest on High Sierra and El Capitan.

Definitely does the job

I've been using this app for years and it seems to be pretty accurate. Admittedly I don't understand exactly how it measures download/upload speeds or why it seems to select different locations to measure from but if my connection sppeed obviously slows this is reflected when I use Speedtest to measure it.
DEAR OOKLA, I HAVE A SUGGESTION - WOuld it be possible to set up Speedtest to take regular teext (say, every hour) over a 24 hour period so that I can see a graph of speed variations over time to understand whether it dips badly during 'busy' periods? It would be great to be able to just set it up to run in the background. Thanks!!

It’s a subtle tool that’s specifically designed with organization in mind, and as such, it lets you better systematize various aspects of your interface. You can also search for specific items, or move them into the optional Bartender Bar if you’re in dire need of additional space. Version 4 improves the workflow creator, introduces rich text snippets, and more.Always a favorite, Amphetamine keeps your computer from going into sleep mode, starting the screensaver, or performing the auto-dim function. Put simply, it lets you choose which apps appear in the menu bar and rearrange their position to your liking. It’s ideal for watching streams, videos, or any other activity in which you don’t touch the keyboard or mouse for an extended period.Note that Amphetamine no longer works with older versions of MacOS before Yosemite.Bartender 3 is an app made for when you’re utilizing too many apps. Mac software how to buy.

Confusing

Ookla speed test app for mac download

I have been using this app for a long time and have always found it to be reliable. However since the latest iteration I have found it has become unreliable. The first problem is that the app often has a problem locating a server and once it is in search mode there is no way to close the app. The app then hangs in search mode and only way to close it is to re-start the computer which is totally unsatisfactory. On restarting the app finds a server immediately. The other problem I have noticed is that the app gives a totally different reading to running OoKla Speedtest in a web browser. I checked the speed of my laptop several times with the app and got a reading of 39Mb. I also got the same reading using the app on my iPhone. However when I took the reading on my laptop using Ookla Speedtest in Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera I consistently got a reading of 60Mb. It’s disappointing not to know which readings to trust.

Its a great App very accurate and totally matches my own findings against the service i pay for and the speed of some of my devices when connected.
I was able to diganose the falt to the cheep router my provider supplied so upgraded to my own netgear RX20 router and instantly saw the speeds i was paying for being delivered more efficiently.
